Regional Folk Art Exhibit
The Shelby County Arts Council is excited to announce our upcoming Regional FolkArt Exhibit organized by guest curator, Bruce Andrews. Mr. Andrews will create a cohesive, high quality body of Folk Art works featuring regional outsider-artists. An Outsider-artist is a contemporary, self-taught artist whose creations celebrate daily life, diversity and culture. Artists exhibiting are: Lennie Jones, Elnora Spencer and She-She Vaughn. The opening reception is Thursday, March 8, 2011 from 6pm – 7:30pm.
Bruce Andrews attended University of Alabama – Birmingham until his junior year when he married and went to work to support his new bride. Bruce has been drawing, sketching, and painting since he was old enough to hold a pencil. His work has been featured in Southern Living, Southern Living Seasonal Coffee Table Book, and the Birmingham Magazine. Not only does he have a passion for art, but music as well. He is a professional musician concentrating mainly on the Blues and American Music derived from blues and gospel. His band 2Blu and the Lucky stiffs will perform at the opening reception.
Our gallery is located at 104 Mildred Street in Columbiana, AL. Exhibits hours are Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Thursday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
