Montgomery Ballet Announces its 2010-2011 Season

in the Capital of Alabama

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE APRIL 29th, 2010, Montgomery, AL: The Montgomery Ballet, The Premier and Official Professional Dance Company of the Capital of Alabama, is pleased to announce its repertoire and performances schedule in Montgomery for the 2010-2011 season. The Montgomery Ballet performances will include free events at the Blount Cultural Park, The Montgomery Zoo and Maxwell Air Force Base and performances in theaters in Montgomery including the Historic Davis Theater and the New Performing Arts Center.

The 2010-2011 season will begin with the annual Performance on the Green at Blount Cultural Park on Friday and Saturday, July 16th &17th, 2010 at 8 PM. These FREE outdoor performances will present the Montgomery Ballet’s artists in a variety of works showcasing the versatility of the company today. Ascending, Mr. Lazar’s playful interpretation of Hayden’s symphony #89 with Don Quixote Pas de duex will be among the ballets presented by the company prior to its departure for its first international engagement in Italy. This event has been named “A Top 20 Event” by the Southeast Tourism Society and will give patrons an opportunity to enjoy the scenic park and a delightful evening of charismatic, professional dance. For its next event, the Montgomery Ballet will partner with the Montgomery Zoo to host Ballet & the Beasts on September 10th , 2010 at 7:30 PM. This performance will continue the 19 year tradition of this family friendly events and will give the citizens of Montgomery an opportunity to view and enjoy the zoo before the performance by the Montgomery Ballet. The series of outdoor performances concludes with Ballet on the Green October 8Th, 2010 at 6:00 PM at Maxwell Air Force Base. Highlights of these performances will showcase classical ballets including Le Papillon pas de deux and the Montgomery Ballet’s premier of La Peri, as well as company’s popular works, Surrender 2 Love, Masa and Niche.

The Montgomery Ballet is excited to return to the Davis Theater Community Concert Series with Montgomery Ballet’s world Premier of Carmina Burana by Artistic Director, Elie Lazar’s version on Friday October 15, 2010 at 7PM. Joined by the Montgomery Chorale and live music, this presentation will not only bring the incredible impact of a truly live event,

but will showcase the strong commitments of both organizations to the City of Montgomery. The performance will be repeated on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 7:30 PM.

On Sunday the 17th , 2010 at 2:30 PM, the Montgomery Ballet will launch its new series for Young Audiences with the full length ballet The Sleeping Beauty. The Sleeping Beauty ballet will follow the original choreography of Marius Petipa and will feature Montgomery Ballet’s principal dancer Nicole Padilla in the lead role of Aurora.

The Montgomery Ballet’s annual holiday tradition, The Nutcracker, will be presented December 17-21, 2010. This ballet‘s 36 year tradition in the Capital City will have feature evening and matinee performances, December 17 & 18 at 7:30PM, December 18 &19 at 2:30 PM and December 20 &21 at 6PM.

Evening of Premiers, an anticipated program of world premiers and company premiers will feature a new innovative modern ballet by Ms. Adria Ferrali. Ms. Ferrali, a guest choreographer from Italy who will premier her new work with the Montgomery Ballet February 18 & 19, 2011 at 7:30 PM. Ms. Ferrali, made her mark in Alabama both as a performer and choreographer when her company, New Dance Drama visited and performed throughout the state of Alabama, last April. On the same program the Montgomery Ballet will feather excerpts from the magical, classical ballet, Raymonda, Lazar’s neo-classical work Layers, and the beautiful and elegant pas de deux, Grand Pas Classic.

On February 20, 2011 at 2:30PM, the Company will offer it 3rd ballet of the series for Young Audiences, A midsummer Night’s Dream. This perfect ballet to Mendelssohn’s master work score will feature Mr. Paul Gilliam as Puck and the beautiful Ms. Molly Wagner as Tatiana. Shakespeare’s genius play of fairies and mortals come to life in Montgomery Ballet’s production is a wonderful way for the all family to enjoy, see, and understand the story without one word.

The Montgomery Ballet will bring its 2010-2011 season to its conclusion with the most known and beloved love story of all time, Romeo & Juliet April 8th & 9th, 2011. At the beautiful Performing Arts Center, the Montgomery Ballet will debut at the center with new scenery built by the company’s set designer Mr. Seay Earehart, costumes by Mrs. Elena Comndatore and Mr. Lazar chorography. Prokofiev music, drama, passion and a company of 30 professional dancers will make the most ambition and trilling season the ballet company experience so far.
